Boost — General ESP Integration Guide

Edited

OVERVIEW

This article covers how to connect any Email Service Provider (ESP) to Boost so you can send your customers their Boost credit and reminder emails. It walks through generating an API key, building the email flow, and the merge tags and timing Loop recommends.

Use the menu on the left to quickly navigate this article.

How it works

When a customer purchases or receives a Boost, Loop needs a way to notify them about their credit — how much they have, how long they have to use it, and what they need to spend to redeem it. If your ESP isn’t natively supported, you can connect any ESP to Boost using an API key and a custom email flow.

Note: If your ESP isn’t listed as a native Boost integration, reach out to the Loop team and we can help get one set up.

Setup

1. Connect your ESP

  1. In your ESP, create an API key.

  2. Copy the API key.

  3. Paste it into the integrations page in the Boost merchant portal.

2. Create the email flow

Set up an email flow in your ESP with this trigger:

  • Trigger: Anyone who purchases or receives a Boost.

3. Add the required merge tags

Make sure each email includes:

  • loot_discount_code — displays the customer’s unique discount code

  • loot_link — for wallet users, directs the customer back to their wallet or store

If you’re using the Boost wallet, add the link merge tag to a button or call-to-action in the email.

4. Set up as transactional email (recommended)

If your ESP supports it, we recommend sending these as transactional emails so they’re delivered to all customers.

To qualify as transactional:

  • Do not include marketing language or promotions

  • Keep the email focused on the customer’s credit

Each email should clearly state:

  • How much credit the customer has

  • How many days they have to use it

  • Minimum spend required to redeem

5. Recommended email timing

  • Email 1: Sent shortly after purchase

  • Email 2: Midway through the expiration window

  • Email 3: 72 hours before expiration

  • Email 4: 24 hours before expiration

Best practices

  • Keep messaging simple — for example, “You have $X in credit waiting.”

  • Stop emails once the credit is redeemed, if your ESP supports it.

FAQ

What if my ESP isn’t listed as a native Boost integration? Reach out to the Loop team — any ESP can be connected using an API key and a custom email flow, following the steps above.

Why should I send these as transactional emails? Transactional emails typically have higher deliverability since they’re not treated as marketing. To qualify, keep the email free of promotions and focused on the customer’s credit.

What happens if a customer doesn’t use the wallet? Skip the wallet-specific link merge tag — the discount code merge tag still applies to all customers.
