Boost — Klaviyo Integration Guide

Edited

OVERVIEW

This article explains how to connect Klaviyo to Boost: adding your Klaviyo API key, building a segment of Boost product purchasers, and using customer-specific Boost links in Klaviyo campaigns and flows.

Use the menu on the left to quickly navigate this article.

How it works

Boost integrates with Klaviyo so you can target customers who’ve purchased or received a Boost, and personalize campaign and flow emails with a link that takes each customer straight to their own Boost wallet or store. Setup has three parts: connecting the API key, building a segment (or flow) of Boost purchasers, and inserting the customer-specific link into your emails.

Setup

1. Add your Klaviyo API key in the Boost Merchant Portal

  1. Navigate to Klaviyo’s API keys settings.

  2. Create an API key with a name of your choice (for example, “Boost API Key”).

  3. The key needs read and write access to Profiles, Lists, and Segments — Boost doesn’t access or write to any other Klaviyo resource.

  4. Copy the key value and enter it as the Klaviyo API key on the integrations page in the Boost Merchant Portal.

2. Create a Boost product purchasers segment

  1. Copy your Shopify Upsell Product ID from the top of the integrations page in your Boost Merchant Portal.

  2. Navigate to Klaviyo’s segment builder.

  3. Name the segment whatever you’d like.

  4. For the definition, select What someone has done (or not done).

  5. Select the condition Ordered Product (the one with the Shopify logo next to it).

  6. Select at least once over all time.

  7. Where Product ID equals the value you copied in step 1.

  8. Click Save segment.

Tip: An easier alternative is to create a flow in Klaviyo instead of a segment — set the flow trigger to Ordered Product, filtered the same way by your Boost product ID.

3. Use customer-specific Boost links in Klaviyo campaigns

  1. Create a campaign targeting the Boost product purchasers segment you created above.

  2. In the content section of the campaign, click Edit email, then double-click any text component and select Personalization in the top right.

  3. Scroll down to Boost_link under the Custom section, then click it.

Note: Confirm this merge-tag name with your Loop/Boost contact before building your flow — see the open item above.

  4. Enter a default value, in case a customer profile didn’t sync from Boost — this shouldn’t normally happen, but it’s best practice to have a fallback. Check the box to save as default value for Boost_link.

  5. Click Insert. A placeholder tag is added to the text component you selected — this is what should be used for any element in the email that links to your site. It looks something like:

    {{ person|lookup:"Boost_link"|default:'<https://yourstore.myshopify.com>' }}

  6. If there’s a button component that links to your store, use the same placeholder tag as the value of Link Address.

FAQ

What Klaviyo permissions does Boost need? Read and write access to Profiles, Lists, and Segments. Boost doesn’t access or write to any other Klaviyo resource.

What if a customer’s profile didn’t sync a Boost link? Set a default value when inserting the personalization tag (see step 4 above) so the email still links somewhere sensible, and check the box to save it as the tag’s default.

Can I use a flow instead of a campaign segment? Yes — creating a Klaviyo flow triggered on Ordered Product, filtered by your Boost product ID, is the faster way to reach the same customers automatically.
