Refunding Mixed Payments
OVERVIEW
When a shopper pays for an order using a combination of a gift card and another payment method, such as a credit card, Loop processes refunds in a specific order. This article explains how Loop prioritizes refunds for these "mixed payment" orders.
How it works
When a shopper returns an item from an order paid for with both a gift card and another method (such as a credit card), Loop first refunds the amount paid with the gift card. If the refund amount is greater than the gift card portion of the payment, the remaining balance is then refunded to the other payment method.
For example, if a customer makes a $100 purchase using a $25 gift card and covering the remaining $75 with a credit card and then returns the entire order:
Loop will first refund $25 to the gift card.
The remaining $75 will then be refunded to the credit card.
This process ensures that the gift card balance is restored first before any other payment method is credited. This helps prevent a gift card from being left with a small, unusable balance while the customer receives a cash refund for the full amount of the return.
